They’ll play a double header today (4/7/19), while the rest of the affiliates won only one out of the three contests that were played.Pitcher Of The Day:The Visalia Rawhide Pitching staff, who combined for 11 scoreless innings, allowing just five hits, 5 walks, and 17 strikeouts.Hitter Of The DayTravis Snider, RF/LF Reno Aces 3-4 BB, 2BReno Aces 4 Fresno Grizzlies 8Domingo Leyba would double and a score run in the first, giving starter Joel Payamps a 1-0 lead, but that 1-0 lead would be the only time the Aces lead the game. Joel Payamps was solid through four innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on five hits and a walk. Payamps allowed two runs in the second, the first coming on a solo home run, with an unearned runcourtesy of a passed ball by Alberto Rosario, which allowed a runner to advance to third, who immediately scored thanks to a follow up single, giving the Grizzlies a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second. Payamps would allow another run, making the score 3-1, before exiting the game. Domingo Leyba would single and score on a double from Travis Snider in the fifth inning , making the score 3-2.Stefan Crichton would enter the game and toss a scoreless fifth inning, but would lose the ability to hit the strikezone in the sixth, walking two batters, and throwing two wild pitches, forcing him to exit the game with two outs. Braden Shipley would walk the first batter he faced, and than followed up with a grand slam, making the score 7-2. The Aces would score a run in the top of the seventh, thanks to a solo homer from Yasmany Tomas, making the score 7-3, but Braden Shipley would allow another run in the seventh, making the score 8-3. In the top of the eighth, Abraham Almonte would double and score Alberto Rosario, making the score 8-4. Marc Rzepczynski would pitch a scoreless eighth inning. Despite walks by Travis Snider and Caleb Joseph with two outs, the Aces were unable to score any runs in the ninth, with Andrew Aplin striking out to end the game. San Jose 0 Visalia Rawhide 1Excellent pitching in this game, with the only run of the game crossing the plate in the last play of the game in the bottom of the eleventh. Kevin McCanna got the start, and tossed four innings, and allowed just two hits and a walk, while striking out six. Lane Ratliff came on in the fifth, and pitched three and two thirds scoreless innings, and allowed a hit and a walk, while striking out four.West Tunnell pitched one and third scoreless innings, and allowed a hit, a walk, and struck out one. Kyler Stout pitched two innings, and allowed a hit and two walks, but got all six of his outs on strikeouts. The lone run of game came in the bottom of the eleventh Aaron Judge Jersey , with Camden Duzenack starting the inning as the automatic runner, Jose Caballero would hit a sacrifice bunt, but would reach ona fielding error. Caballero would advance to second thanks to defensive indifference. Jancarlos Cintron would then single on a groundball to right field, scoring Camden Duzenack and winning the game. Kane Country Cougars 1 Clinton Lumberkings 6 Justin Lewis, who has some serious eyebrows, got the start, and was solid through the first three innings, but was unable to get any outs in the fourth. Lewis walked the first three batter he faced, then allowed a single scoring a run. Lewis would allow the fourth walk of the inning with the bases loaded, before being taken out of the game for Kenny Hernandez. Hernandez would hit the first batter he faced with pitch, forcing in another run, and then a force out on the next batter would allow a fourth run to score. Hernandez would then throw a wild pitch, strike out the next batter, and then walk the fifth batter of the inning, before getting another strike out to end the inning. Hernandez would pitch three more innings, and would pitch a scoreless fifth inning, but would allow two more runs in the sixth inning. Hernandez would settle down and pitch scoreless seventh, before being taken out for Blake Workman, who would pitch a scoreless eighth. Jorge Perez lead off the game with a solo home run, but the Cougars wouldn’t score more runs after that, largely in part to there being only one other hit in the game, by LT Tolbert, along with just twowalks in the game, one by Geraldo Perdomo, and the other by Jose Herrera. They all know what they are talking about. Migueal Andujar was named ROY by The Sporting News but who really even reads that?? Everyone but The Sporting News got it right. The vote wasn’t even close.Babe Ruth. Shohei Ohtani. There really aren’t many comparisons to what Ohtani did in his record setting debut season. Ohtani was the first player since Babe Ruth (99 years ago) to pitch 50 innings and hit 15 home runs in a single season. But wait - there’s more!Ohtani became the ONLY player in MLB history to hit 10 home runs, steal 10 bases, and pitch 10 games pitched in a single season - and he did all those things VERY WELL. He also became the first player in history to hit 15 home runs and strike out 50 hitters. Take that Babe Ruth! Gleyber Torres hasn’t had any ROY nods but he DID have a good season with a .271/.340/.480 slashline, 2.9 bWAR, 24 home runs, and 6 stolen bases. He was also an All Star. In fact, looking purely at slashlines, Torres looks better (or pretty comparable) to Andujar who slashed .297/.328/.527 with a 2.2 bWAR, 27 home runs, and 2 stolen bases.Ohtani? Well, he put up a 3.9 bWAR with a .285/.361/.564 slashlane with 22 home runs and 10 stolen bases. His offensive numbers ALONE were better than either Andujar or Torres so you could just leave it there - but let’s not. Ohtani also started 10 games with a 3.31 ERA, 1.161 WHIP, and 63 Ks over 51.2 innings. Truly remarkable - and the kind of player that literally comes along once in a century.Over the last two months of the season, Ohtani went on a complete tear - even after finding out he’d likely be headed for Tommy John Surgery. In those last 38 games started he hit 13 home runs, stole 8 bases, walked 17 times, drove in 36 runs, and put up an insane 1.042 OPS.Ohtani was the better hitter, the better pitcher (duh), and Andujar was a terrible liability on the field with second worst DRS rating in all of MLB and the worst overall in terms of UZR/150.Some more Ohtani facts? He won AL Player of the week right after he learned he’d be heading for likely surgeryAmong players with more than 300 ABs, he had the 5th best wRC+ in the ALHe hit more home runs than all other pitchers combinedHe threw the fastest pitch by any starter this seasonHis 15.2% swinging strike rate is second best in the AL behind Chris Sale and 4th best in MLB - AND his splitter had the highest whiff rate of all pitches by ALL pitchers this seasonHe’s changed the way we look at baseball and two-way playersAny more questions? Nope.Congrats to Shohei Ohtani for a very well deserved Rookie of the Year Award!!!
